Avro Canada CF-103 Canuck II
The only actual CF-103 that was ever 'produced' was a wooden mock-up of a MK. III Canuck with swept-back wings and a new tail. This is the only known photograph of this model, the date of this photo is unknown (so if anyone out there know's of the date, please let me know.).
The powerplant for the CF-103, had it gone into production, would most likely have been two Orenda 11 or 17 engines, as was in the Canuck IV's and V's, but since the 103 concept was based on the MK. III Canuck, it probably had Orenda 2 or 8 engines in it.
Here are my versions of the CF-103 that I've dubbed the Canuck II (19101). The first two profiles are of the mocked up MK. I, one in Avro Canada's traditional black roll-out scheme, and one in white.
The CF-103 MK. II, my vision of what it would have morphed into, like I said, had Avro Canada gone ahead with the project.
This version eliminated the two Orenda engines on the fuselage and put one inside the aircraft, with it's exhaust at the rear of the plane. This version probably would have had an Orenda 11 engine it it.
CF-103 MK. III. This version shows the main wing structure lowered to the bottom of the aircraft. The canopy is strengthened and the overall length of the aircraft was lengthened by almost 3 feet to accomodate the 1 Orenda Iroquois engine.
CF-103 MK. IV. This version has a narrower intake, and the rear stabilizers were moved to the top of the tail fin. This also has a larger speed brake on each side of the fuselage than the MK. II and MK. III versions.
This aircraft is presented in the camouflaged scheme the Canadian Forces used in Europe in the late 60's and early 70's.
